About Stan
Ever since the age of 10 Stan has had a passion for industrial heritage, visiting old mine workings, heritage railways and museums on family holidays it wasn't long before a little corner of the garden was turned into a small forge and he started volunteering at a local steam railway.
Stan then spent a year at art college before finally graduating from the National School of Blacksmithing at Hereford in 2022, gaining Distinction Star, and an Outstanding student award. Stan was also a trustee of the Waterworks Museum in Hereford. Stan Has won awards in various ironwork classes at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show.
Since college Stan then went straight into employment at a reputable company that works on many prestigious large ironwork heritage projects including Barry water mill for the national trust in Scotland, Tower Bridge steam engines in London, iron and glazing repairs to the Sion House in London, Kings Western footbridge Bristol, and many more. These demanded the highest level of skill, organisation and professionalism. Stan was later asked to be on the Council for the British Artist blacksmith Association 2022-2024. Stan was offered a summer working full time as Chief engineer and stoker on board the sea going steam boat, Clyde puffer VIC 32. This required a huge amount of discipline and enthusiasm in a public facing job, with very little room for error at sea, Stan was asked back for a second year.
After a successful summer season, Stan's services were again in demand on a multitude of other projects as an independent craftsman, including replica gates, restoration work and recommissioning work on a sister steamboat. Stan's involvement with the Society for the Protection of Ancient buildings, and the British Artist Blacksmith Association continues to complement his work and help to channel his enthusiasm in the sector.
What is clear is Stan's passion and his love for his crafts, This has lead to Stan being asked to give talks and attend events. This has lead to many commissions and subcontracting work for a wide variety of clients including, Inashed Forge, Crinan Boatyard, Dorothea Restorations, Waterworks Museum-Hereford and a lot of private clients.
